Volleyball vs. Brookfield Academy
There was a lot on the line when the University School girls’ volleyball team played Brookfield Academy in a Midwest Classic Conference match on Monday, October 8th at USM.
The Wildcats entered the match with their arch-rivals knowing that a win would move them into a three-way tie for first place in the conference. With that goal in mind, they determined to play their best volleyball in their last match of the regular season.
The Wildcats reached their goal. They dominated the first, winning it, 25-8. They took the second set, 25-15. That set them up for a sweep of the match. They played as they had hoped and took home a victory and a first-place berth by winning the set, 25-14.
“Well, we have a share of the conference championship after our win tonight at BA,” said Sue baker, USM’s head coach. “The girls came out ready to play and did what they needed to do. I was proud of the way they recovered from our loss on Saturday. They knew that with the win they would have a share of conference, and they’ve wanted that since the start of the season. I am proud of these girls and the way we played this season. It’s hard to believe that we are finished with the regular season and conference tournament and playoffs are next up. We will continue to work hard and we are going to prepare for a run to state.”
The Wildcats concluded their fine season with a 25-2 overall record. They ended the regular season of Midwest Classic Conference play with a 7-1 mark. The Wildcats hope to continue the successes of the season by winning the Midwest Classic Conference Tournament. USM hosts the tournament on Friday, October 12th beginning at 3:00 p.m.
