Girls Swimming and Diving at the Ashwaubewnon Sectional

The Brown Deer/University School girls swimming and diving team finished the 2018 season by taking 6th place in the Ashwaubenon Sectional of the WIAA Division 2 state tournament on Saturday, November 3rd at Ashwaubenon High School.

The sixth place finish was not high enough for the BD/USM team to advance to the state tournament as a team.  Although the team had some fine showings in individual events, no member of the BD/USM team advanced to the state tournament as a special qualifier.

Abby Frenkel had BD/USM’s best finish in the meet.  Frenkel finished in second place in the 100 yard Freestyle race.  Her time in the event was 56.12 seconds.  Emily Kolb took 11th place in the race at 58.63 seconds.

Frenkel also finished 8th in the 50 yard Freestyle event.  Her time in the race was 25.99 seconds.

BD/USM had a 3rd place finish in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay event.  Mira Giles-Pufahl, Amanda Hoppe, Frenkel, and Kolb swam together and concluded the race with a time of 3:53.95.

Giles-Pufahl, Hoppe, Kolb, and Frenkel finished 5th in the 200 yard Freestyle race.  The BD/USM quartet’s time in the event was 1:46.67.

BD/USM’s McKenna Frede, Maggie Greenman, Mya Johnson, and Laura Curry took 12th place in the 200 yard Medley Relay.  Their time in the race was 2:14.98.

After the meet, BD/USM’s head coach, Doug Dickinson commented, “We concluded our girls season with a fantastic sixth place finish in the team rankings at sectionals. We had all season best times and almost unanimous lifetime bests. Senior leadership was on full display with captain Abby Frenkel taking second in the 100 freestyle and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Seniors Amanda Hoppe and Emily Kolb joined sophomore superstar Mira Giles-Pufahl and Frenkel for third place in the 4 by 100 freestyle relay. The same four can close to a team record in the 200 freestyle relay and took 5th place. Junior McKenna Frede, sophomores Maggie Greenman and Mya Johnson with freshman Laura Curry stepped up and placed twelfth in the 200 medley Relay.”

Dickinson concluded by saying, “We had a great season with a bunch of great, caring student athletes. Teams that love each other, and say it often, are pretty fun to be a part of.”
