Boys Swimming at the Small School State Meet Invitational
The Brown Deer/University School boys swimming and diving team took 14th place in the Small School State Meet, an invitational hosted by Shorewood High School at Shorewood High School on Saturday, January 26th.
The Small School State meet is an annual harbinger of the WIAA Division 2 State Championship meet in mid-February. Many of the top contenders for the state title take part in the Small School meet at Shorewood.
BD/USM’s head coach, Doug Dickinson, commented on the day, “We swam against some of the top Division 2 schools in the state. Some highlights were a twelfth place finish in the 200 Free relay and thirteenth in the 200 Medley relay. Junior captain Caleb Saffold lead the way individually with a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke.”
As Dickinson indicated, Saffold led the way for the team. He earned 13 of the team’s points by taking 6th place in the 100 yard Breaststroke event. Saffold swam the distance with a time of 1:04.02.
Saffold also gained the team points in the 200 yard Freestyle race. He earned 5 points by finishing 13th in the event with a time of 2:00.3.
Saffold anchored BD/USM’s 200 yard Freestyle Relay foursome. He followed Reid Pezewski, Johnny Albrightson, and Bobby Albrightson. The team finished with a time of 1:44.72, good enough for 12th place and 10 points.
Caleb Henry, Saffold, and Johnny and Bobby Albrightson swam to a 13th place in the 200 yard Medley Relay race. The quartet gained 8 points with a time of 1:56.17.
