Girls basketball vs. Abundant Life Christian

In a close action-filled, non-conference game on Saturday, January 26th, the University School girls’ basketball team rallied for a come-from behind victory over Abundant Life Christian at USM.  The final score was 47-42.

Jason Strains, USM’s head coach, commented on the stirring victory, “That was truly an impressive team win. We struggled early, but then we fought harder defensively, dug deep, and pulled out a great win. We had to come back three separate times to take the lead, and we did it. I'm so proud of everyone.”

As Strains indicated, the Wildcats struggled early on.  They fell behind and couldn’t overcome the Challengers’ lead in the first half, which ended with Abundant Life Christian ahead by 8 points at 27-19.

The Wildcats recovered and rallied in the following half.  They essentially reversed the first half score in the second stanza and added a few points as well, winning it by 13 points at 28-15.  The result was a hard-fought half that concluded with a USM victory.

As she often does, Aidanne DePoy led the Wildcats in scoring with 14 points in the game.  Molly Janssen scored 12 points; Taylor Janssen score 9 points; Ayorkor Aryeetey scored 7 points; Tunmi Omoloja scored 4 points; and Gaelle Marolda scored 1 point for USM.

USM is 10-7 and 6-3 in the Midwest Classic Conference. The Wildcats play Lake Country Lutheran in a Midwest Classic Conference game on Tuesday, January 29th at Lake Country Lutheran High School in Hartland.
