Boys Lacrosse vs. Wauwatosa
The University School boys’ lacrosse team fell behind early then rallied to defeat Wauwatosa 10-5 in a Classic Eight Conference game played Tuesday, April 9th at USM.
Wauwatosa took a two goal lead in the first quarter, but by the end of the first half the Wildcats were on top of the situation with a 4-2 lead. USM added four goals in the third quarter and held on in the final 12 minutes to secure the win.
USM’s head coach, Carl Anderson, explained, “We dug ourselves a small hole by going down 2-0 in the first three minutes, but we rallied, and had a 4-2 lead at half that we never gave back. We weathered an illegal stick penalty that wiped out a goal, killing the penalty. Our faceoffs were particularly strong today, and that will be a huge asset going forward. Other than a short stretch in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, where we nearly let Tosa back in the game, we played well. We're glad to have a W on the board, and have a tough game to prepare for against Neenah on Friday.”
The Wildcats won 12 of the 17 faceoffs in the game to give them good ball control. Consequently, they had scoring chances. John Walters led the Wildcats with 4 goals. Carson Mogush, Kyler Ringgold, and Ryan Zweif each added 2 goals to USM’s total. Alex Sanchez stopped 5 of the 10 shots that the Wauwatosa contingent fired his way.
USM is 1-1 and 1-0 in the Classic Eight Conference. As Anderson said, the Wildcats have a good test of their talent on Friday, April 12th when they play Neenah in a non-conference game at USM at 4:30 p.m.
