Boys Lacrosse vs. Neenah

The University School boys’ lacrosse team took an early lead and went on to defeat Neenah 10-5 in a non-conference game on Friday, April 12th at USM.

In the cold weather conditions, the wind chills were below freezing, the USM squad stayed hot and maintained ball control for a large part of the game.  The Wildcats never trailed in the game.  They scored first.  Then, after Neenah tied it at 1-1, the USM players tallied three straight goals in the first quarter, two of which came in the quarter’s final minute, to lead 4-1.

The teams traded goals in the second quarter.  The Wildcats then went ahead by outscoring their guest 3-1 in the third quarter to take a commanding 8-3 lead.  Both teams scored two goals in the final quarter, but the Wildcats had a big lead, and they returned to the warmth of their locker room with a well-deserved victory.

Ryan Zwief led USM with 5 goals in the contest. Carson Mogush scored 2 goals, and John Walters, Tim Rooney, and Ryan Kennedy each scored 1 goal for the victors.

Alex Sanchez, USM’s goalkeeper, stopped 7 of the 12 shots the Rockets fired at USM’s net.  Sanchez also cleared the ball well, making several up field runs to keep the ball out of danger.

Carl Anderson, USM’s head coach, commented on the win, “We came out strong and built a 4-1 lead, possessing well. We had a bit of a lull in the second quarter, but roared back to take a commanding lead by the end of the third that we wouldn't let go. We were particularly strong helping our faceoff guys from the wing and dominating in that area. We look to continue our winning streak on Tuesday against Catholic Memorial.”

USM is 2-1 and 1-0 in the Classic Eight Conference.  The Wildcats play Catholic Memorial in a Classic Eight Conference game at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 16th at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha.
