Cross Country at the Mukwonago Invitational

The University School cross country team competed in the Mukwonago Cross Country Invitational hosted by Mukwonago High School at Mukwonago High School on Thursday, October 3rd.  The USM boys team took 4th place in the meet.  The USM girls team took 8th place in the meet.

USM’s top finisher in the boys meet was Drew Stephens.  He ran the 5 kilometers at Mukwonago High School in 17:26.4, good enough for a 6th place individual finish.  Drew’s twin, Thomas, was USM’s second finisher.  He took 15th place with a time of 17:57.4.  USM’s Ryan Treptow finished 29th in the meet.  His time was 18:35.0.  George Graham finished 31st at 18:42.8; Hunter Kaufman took 47th place with a time of 19:20.6; and Harrison Hartjes finished 51st at 19:31.2.

Like her teammate Drew Stephens, Mya Hartjes took 6th place for the Wildcats in the girls meet.  Hartjes finished with a time of 20:19.8.  Lexi Keppler had USM’s second best finish in the race.  She finished 14th with a time of 20:55.6.  Lucia Rondini finished in 49th place at 22:36.1.  Capri Oliviero’s time of 23:04.8 earned her 59th place, and Arianna Fuller finished 79th with a time of 24:08.3.

“Mukwonago was old school cross country,” said Eric Pilling, USM’s head coach. “Lots of mud and over-the-ankle water. Normally this course runs relatively fast, but the conditions slowed things a little bit.

"I was very pleased with both team performances. The boy's 4th place in a large field of 14 teams was very solid. They were aggressive from the gun. We may have faded a little bit in the second half, but it was a good course to go out and match up with the other teams. Drew bounced back from a slightly off day last week and finished 30 seconds ahead of the winner of our Kewaskum meet.

“The girl's 8th place finish in a field of 15 (without one of our top 5) was also encouraging. Mya started a little more conservatively and moved up from 14th place at the mile to finish 6th. Arianna is demonstrating more confidence on our varsity scoring as our 5th runner.”

The Wildcats compete in the Lake Country Lutheran Cross Country Festival at Lake Country Lutheran High School in Hartland on Saturday, October 6th beginning at 10:00 a.m.
