The University School boys’ basketball team defeated Messmer 68-59 in a Midwest Classic Conference game on Friday, February 7th at Messmer High School in Milwaukee.
The Wildcats scored the game’s first basket and never trailed in the contest. Messmer did tie it at 6-6, but the Wildcats then went on a 10-2 run to take a solid lead. They kept building it and eventually led by 17 points at halftime when the score was USM 33, Messmer 16.
USM scored 7 unanswered points at the start of the second half to take a commanding 24 point lead at 40-16.
The Wildcats stayed ahead for the rest of the game.
However, with USM leading at 49-29, the Bishops went to a full court press. Messmer was able to whittle the Wildcats lead down to 9 points on several occasions as the clock ticked away. The Bishops had even more chances, but they were never able to hone their shooting to get the scoring differential closer. The Wildcats held them off and returned to USM with a conference victory.
