Boys Swimming at the Woodland Conference Championships

The Brown Deer/University School boys swimming and diving team took 6th place in the Woodland Conference Championship meet on Saturday, February 8th at Greenfield High School.

Although no BD/USM swimmer took first place, several of them did well in the highly competitive meet.

Caleb Saffold had the team’s best finish.  He took 2nd place in the 100 yard Breaststroke event.  His time in the race was 1:02.77.  Reid Pezewski took 10th place for BD/USM with a time of 1:13.85.

Saffold joined Johnny Albrightson, Jordan Thomas, and Pezewski to finish 3rd in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay race.  The BD/USM quartet finished with a time of 1:39.42.

BD/USM took 4th place in the 200 yard Medley Relay race.  Bret Nerbun, Saffold, Albrightson and Pezewski finished with a time of 1:51.18.

Albrightson also gained a 4th place finish for BD/USM in the 100 yard Butterfly event.  His time in the race was 57.79 seconds.

Saffold’s time of 23.21 seconds was good enough to give him 6th place in the 50 Freestyle race.

Dickinson, USM’s head coach was pleased with the meet.  He said, “We had a great conference meet at Greenfield High School. As a team we placed 6th, which is an improvement from our 8th place finish last year. Seven of our eight swimmers contributed with points scored for the team.

“Every single swimmer had at least one lifetime best time. Most had lifetime bests with every swim.

“The 200 freestyle relay medaled with a third place finish. Johnny Albrightson, Caleb Saffold, Jordan Thomas and Reid Pezewski blew away expectations and dropped fourteen seconds from their seed time.

“Our 200 medley relay placed fourth. Bret Nerbun, Caleb Saffold, Johnny Albrightson and Reid Pezewski dropped five seconds from season best.

“Caleb Saffold led individual placements with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a sixth place finish in the 50 freestyle.

“Johnny Albrightson placed fourth in the 100 fly dropping 3 seconds from his lifetime best. He also placed ninth in the 50 freestyle.

“Reid Pezewski placed ninth in the 100 freestyle and tenth in the 100 breaststroke.

“Rising freshman Bret Nerbun placed sixth in the 100 backstroke and tenth in the 500 freestyle with big improvements.

“We focus now on the sectional meet in Plymouth and look forward to more improvements.”
