Skiing at Heiliger Huegel

The University School ski team competed in a Midwest High School Ski Conference Giant Slalom meet on Thursday, February 6th at Holy Hill in Richfield.  Both the USM boys team and the USM girls team took 4th place in the meet.

By taking 4th place in the last conference meet, the Wildcat boys finished the season tied for 12th place in the final conference standings and the Wildcat girls ended in 13th place.  The boys team lost out on a chance to go to state due to a head-to-head tie breaker, and the girls team was eliminated since only the top 12 conference teams advance to the state championships.  However, Porter Westveer made it to state as an individual competitor.

Lucy Daniels had the best finish for the Wildcats in the meet at Holy Hill.  She finished 10th in the girls race through the Giant Slalom gates.  Her total time for her two runs was 50.46 seconds.  Steph Goris finished 12th.  She had a time of 52.45.  Silvia Larson took 17th place with a time of 54.57.  Mars Ferrer finished in 21st place with a time of 58.51 and Audrey Ferrer finished 26th at 61.14.  The five skiers gave USM its team total of 215.99.  Caroline Kornreich also skied for the Wildcats.  She finished in 27th place with a time of 72.84.

Roman Westveer was USM’s top finisher in the boys meet.  He took 17th with a time of 50.79.  Nico Potter finished 18th at 51.50.  Owen Gardner took 21st place with a time of 52.63.  Joseph Gozon finished in 24th place at 62.41.  Porter Westveer did not complete his first run and finished in 27th place.  Conner Gourlay finished in 28th place.

Porter Westveer will represent the University School ski team when he competes in the Wisconsin High School Ski and Snowboards Championships on Sunday, February 16th and Monday, February 17th at Mt. La Crosse in La Crosse.
