Boys Basketball vs. Luther Prep
The University School boys’ basketball team lost to Watertown Luther Prep 60-59 in a non-conference game on Tuesday, February 11th at USM.
In the first half, USM took a big lead. Led by two three pointers by Chris Powell, the Wildcats led by 16 points at 24-8 with about 7:00 remaining in the half.
But the Phoenix seemed to regenerate. They moved closer and closer and by halftime they trailed by just two points at 28-26.
The Wildcats maintained the lead until the clock read 1:29 when Atticus Lawrenz sank two free throws to give the Phoenix their first lead of the game at 58-57.
Seconds later CJ Boyd answered with two successful free throws to put USM back ahead by one.
The play got tense for the final minute. With 13.7 seconds on the clock, Cole Burow took an inbound pass in the lane and sank a jump shot to put the Phoenix back ahead. The Wildcats had one last chance, but a turnover with 4 seconds left sealed their fate. The Phoenix returned to Watertown with a win.
In the game, Greg Farrow led USM with 17 points; Powell scored 10 points; Bartl scored 9 points; Boyd and Jacob Gold each scored 8 points; Zadan Mason scored 4 points; and Dorian Jones scored 3 points.
USM is 7-10 and 7-4 in the Midwest Classic Conference. The Wildcats play Heritage Christian in a Midwest Classic Conference game at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 13th at St. Luke’s Church in Brookfield.
